Received the TCC certificate - Spring'22
Samrin received the Teaching and Communication Certificate (TCC) from the graduate school of NC State University after completing 100 hours of approved workshops. Teaching, in this context, means communicating complex ideas clearly and persuasively, tailoring the message to meet the needs of audiences. To learn more about the certificate click here.
2021-22 Outstanding Teaching Assistant Awards
Samrin was among 15 winners of 2021-22 Outstanding Teaching Assistant Awards from the NC State Graduate Student Association’s Teaching Effectiveness Committee. The awards are the primary university-level recognition for exceptional contributions made by graduate teaching assistants (TAs) to the educational excellence of the university. Awarded Mentored Teaching Fellowship - Fall'21
Samrin was awarded the Mentored Teaching Fellowship (MTF) for the Fall'21 semester. She worked with Drs. Casey Dietrich and Kumar Mahinthakumar of the department of Civil, Construction, and Environmental Engineering at NC State University. MTF is a program that augments the existing teaching assistantship program within the College of Engineering. MTF position allows the graduate student to participate in more course development and teaching activities than a normal TA would allow.
Selected as a PTP Fellow - Fall'21
Samrin was selected as a Preparing the Professoriate (PTP) fellows at NC State University for the year 2021-2022. PTP is a nationally recognized program designed to give exceptional doctoral students and postdoctoral scholars an immersive mentoring, teaching, and future faculty preparation experience. Under the PTP development program, she will receive hands-on teaching opportunity under the direction of Drs. Casey Dietrich and Tarek Aziz. PTP program is one of only two professional development programs that recognize successful fellows with a formal transcript notation as evidence of their hard work and achievement.
Certification: How to use learning outcomes
This is a two-part workshop, that goes beyond formulating learning outcomes to consider their use for both lesson planning and assessment. The first session discusses the backward course design concepts to practice using outcomes as planning and assessment tools, with a special focus on writing measurable outcomes for critical thinking in the humanities. Certification: How to Engage with Diverse Learners
This is a two-part workshop, that explores the universal design for learning to engage diverse learners. In the first session, participants conduct an assessment of a task that has multiple solutions and discuss concrete strategies to motivate students that approach tasks in different ways. In the second session, participants receive feedback on an activity that they designed based on what they learned in the first session.

Certification: Accessibility in Classroom
Accessibility in the Classroom is a 6-week long program created by NC State University’s IT Accessibility Office with support from UNC System, DELTA, and the College of Education, to support faculty and staff members in the UNC System as they create accessible instructional materials. Certification: How to Manage Conflict in the Classroom
This is a two-part workshop designed to explore strategies for managing conflict in the classroom. This workshop is offered by the Graduate School at NC State University. This workshop aims to enhance the teaching experience by examining various approaches to preventative and reactive conflict management, using real-life examples.

Presentation: Research Talk at the EWC Research Symposium
Samrin presented her research work during the 21st Annual Environment, Water, and Coastal (EWC) Research Symposium. This annual event has several goals: to showcase the recent research by students within the EWC group; to engage with local alumni and the local engineering community, whose members serve as judges; and to invite prospective students to learn more about the CCEE department of NC State University. Presentation: Samrin is selected as 3MT Finalist!
Samrin was selected as one of the ten graduate students representing six NC State colleges to compete at the three-minute thesis competition. In this competition, students present their research in just three minutes! The finalists were chosen from a field of 45 students who submitted their videos in the preliminary rounds. Samrin Wins 1st Prize in EWC Research Symposium!
From more than 50 poster presentations, the top 10 finalists are chosen to present their research work in just 5 minutes. Samrin won first place after presenting her research work that shows innovative ways to reduce Sanitary Sewer Overflows (SSOs) due to the Fat, Oil, and Grease (FOG) deposits. Samrin Wins CCEE Departmental 3MT Competition!
Samrin won the Civil, Construction, and Environmental Engineering (CCEE) departmental three-minute thesis competition at NC State University! The CCEE department held this competition for the third year to enhance the graduate student's research and communication skills. 10 Ph.D. candidates and one M.Sc student participated this year where Samrin secured first place.
